We are absolutely thrilled to lift the curtain on the upcoming 2023-24 Concert Season of the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus! As we stand on the threshold of a new musical journey, we invite you to join us in experiencing the power and beauty of choral music that will resonate in your heart and soul. Prepare to be captivated by a series of mesmerizing performances that celebrate the sheer brilliance of our ensemble and the dedication of our singers. Our carefully curated repertoire promises to transport you to new realms of emotion, imagination, and harmony. As many of you know, this season will be part of a very exciting transition. Under the interim musical direction of Dr. David Edmonds, we will be welcoming three esteemed guest conductors this season. All three guests are candidates to become our permanent music director starting with the 2024-25 season. The feedback of concert attendees will be factored into this decision, so it is vital that we have as many of you at our concerts as is possible this season. Here's a sneak peek at what's in store:
The Roger Melone Emeritus Concert: Sunday, October 15th 2023 3pm at Simms Hall.
The program for the Roger Melone Emeritus Concert will feature Verdi's Pater Noster followed by Puccini's Messa di Gloria. Our annual fundraising gala and silent auction will follow at Artichoke Cafe. Tickets for that event can be purchased separately for $125.
John Lidfors distinguishes himself as a conductor of uncommon versatility across the orchestral and vocal spectrum whose presence both in the US as well as in Europe is rapidly increasing. A prize winner in the Arthur Nikisch International Conducting Competition, finalist of the CSO Sir Georg Solti International Conducting Competition and winner of the 2021 German Choral Conductor's Prize, he has debuted at the Berlin Philharmonie and the Vienna Musikverein concert halls.
The NMSC Holiday Concert: Sunday, December 3rd 2023 3pm at Simms Hall.
Interim Music Director, Dr. David Edmonds will be presenting a program centered on Bernstein's Chichester Psalms among other pieces. This concert will also feature talented special guests representing the future of choral music in New Mexico.
David Edmonds, D.M.A, currently serves as Director of Choral Studies at the University of New Mexico where he directs the UNM Concert Choir and University Chorus and teaches undergraduate and graduate conducting and choral repertoire.
